When I just started my weight loss journey 5 years ago, I weighed in at 220 lbs. I hated running. Or so I thought…I knew I needed to do cardio, and I thought running was the best cardio – so I started to run. At first, all I could do is jog for 10-15 seconds then walk for at least a minute. I hated every cardio session.
The reason I hated running was that I was bad at it. My knees hurt and my back ached, I was out of breath and sweating like crazy, but I have had no practice in such a long time so it was to be expected.
I kept trying though. And kept trying. And kept trying. And guess what? I started to lose weight, and running became easier, and then it became enjoyable, and then it became my passion. I LOVE running now, but it didn’t happen in one day.
Fast forward to January 2019, I have completed numerous half-marathons,9 Spartan races, 4 Tough Mudders, 4 Ragnar Trail Relays, 2 FULL Marathons, one 50K (yes, that is 32 miles!) and lots of 5K, 10 K, and 15 K races. You can see all my medals displayed at the gym.
